A true multimedia pioneer, Laurie Anderson's whole career is defined by a refusal to be boxed in. A musician, storyteller, visual artist, filmmaker, inventor, and a creative genius in general, she has been experimenting with sound, technology, and visuals since the 1970s, way before the term "multimedia" became popular. Her hypnotic 1981 hit O Superman will give you an idea of what her unusual world looks like.

Throughout her career, Anderson has collaborated with some of the biggest names in music and art, from Philip Glass and Brian Eno to Peter Gabriel and her late husband Lou Reed. She's even served as NASA's first Artist-in-Residence, invented her own experimental musical instruments and won a Grammy Award, but accolades have never been the point. Curiosity has.
