Celebrating its 50th season in 2019, Theatreworks now boldly moves into the future under the guidance of brand new Artistic Director Tim Bond following the retirement of founder and driving force Robert Kelley. Kelley wishes the troupe a fond farewell and flies its flag ever higher during a diverse, multi-cultural and innovative 2019/20 program of works old and new.
Exploring themes ranging from immigration to racism and social unrest in the early 20th century, the Tony Award-winning Broadway tuner Ragtime helps kick things off in early spring. Memorable musical theatre classics including "Wheels of a Dream," "Back to Before," and "Your Daddy's Son,", punctate the intersecting story of an African-American family, a Jewish immigrant family and a wealthy suburban WASP family. Brought together in the aftermath of a crime, they interact and influence each other with unexpectedly emotional results.
Opening night: 31 March 2021
